V8 Supercars Australia: Jamie Whincup lidera faltando cinco etapas para o final

Após a disputa da Coates Hire Ipswich 360 no Queensland Raceway, entre os dias 27 e 28 de julho, e da Winton 360 no Winton Motor Raceway, nos dias 24 e 25 de agosto, o australiano Jamie Whincup (Holden/ Triple 8) mantém a liderança do campeonato.

Nas seis últimas provas, Whincup venceu apenas a primeira da rodada tripla no Queensland Raceway. O piloto da Triple 8, não teve um bom final de semana no Winton Motor Raceway.

Whincup abandonou as duas primeiras provas da Winton 360. Na terceira terminou apenas na 13ª posição.

Além de Whincup, cinco pilotos diferentes venceram em Queensland e Winton. O neozelandês  Scott McLaughlin (Holden/ GRM) e os australianos Chaz Mostert (Ford/ DJR), James Moffat (Nissan/ Kelly Racing), Mark Winterbottom (Ford/ FPR) e James Courtney (Holden/ HRT).

Mostert e Moffat venceram pela primeira vez na categoria. A vitória de Moffat na primeira prova no Winton Motor Raceway foi a primeira da montadora japonesa Nissan desde 1992 (quando o campeonato ainda se chamava Australian Touring Car Championship).

A próxima etapa, a Wilson Security Sandown 500, no Sandown Raceway, acontece entre os dias de 14 e 15 de setembro.
